Mustangs West Gazette 2010  Volume 4

By:  Michael Dunson

We are just starting our car show season with three shows attended so far.  We started off with the North Olympic Mustangs Port Angeles show. Some members drove up the day before and a small group of us made the trek in the early a.m. What a gorgeous drive with long windy roads.  It was perfect for testing our Mustangs’ cornering abilities.

The show was held at a new place closer to the ferry terminal.  It was a beautiful site with picturesque scenery in all directions and a covered area for all of us to get away from the drippy afternoon weather.  People with convertibles had the choice to keep their tops up or leave them down to help wash the dirt from the interior of their rides.  There was even a pony trails cruise held the day before on Saturday which was well attended and met with rave reviews.  Mustangs West members brought home several awards that day and a great time was had by all that attended.

Our next show was in Olympia at the Top Foods Store on the West Side. This was their second annual MS benefit show.    Last year was a very wet and rainy show, but this year made up for last years’ inclement weather and was very warm and sunny.  There were lots of classic cars and a very good turn out from our Mustangs West club.  Top Foods provided a continental breakfast and then a BBQ lunch for everyone.  Al received an award for best personalized plate.

Lacey Spring Fun Fair is one of our favorite shows.  It’s held at St. Martin’s College and has tons of vendors, exhibits, and things for kids to explore.  The weather was warm and almost hot in the afternoon.  Sunburns were awarded to those forgetting the sunscreen lotion.   180 cars of all types showed up – Mustangs and Mustangs West were very prevalent and of course were our favorite entries.  There’s something about a group of Mustangs with their hoods up that draws the spectators.  Gerald got Best Engine award, which was great as there weren’t many classes.

The car show committee has held several meetings and is moving along nicely with many things already in place for our September car show “Ponies in the Park”.  We will have the popular “Wounded Warrior Program” as was held last year.  It seems this will be an annual event.  Art work is done and posters have been printed and are being distributed to sponsors.  Entry forms will be going out in the mail to last year’s participants.

June looks like a very busy month for events with something different held every weekend.  There are lots of choices.  Events include “All Ford & Import Swap & Show” in Hillsboro, Oregon on June 5th , Forest Festival Show in Shelton on June 6th, a cruise to Emerald Downs on the 12th, and our annual Teddy Bear Cruise and Picnic on June 27th.  No one should get bored.

July will follow with two parades as well as other events including the Tumwater 4th of July parade, the Lakefair car show on July 16th, and the Lakefair parade on July 17th.  Each year we try to be louder than the Corvette Club on the parade routes. We are by far a better looking group.

I hope everyone is enjoying the start of the car event season and there are plenty of things following in coming months.

Any reports on other club member attended events can be submitted for posting.  Enjoy your Mustang everyone.
